What are UltraVans?
UltraVans are a very unique type of motorhome. They are powered by a Corvair engine and transaxle which was designed in the early 1960s by aircraft designer David Peterson. These motorhomes were produced in limited quantities by Ultra inc. of Hutchinson, KS until June 1970.
Ultravans do not have chassis like most vehicles you see today. Instead, they are constructed like an airplane. The top and sides are constructed of aluminum ribs covered with riveted sheets of aluminum. The curved front and back are made of fiberglass and each wheel is fitted with its own coil spring and tubular shock absorber.
